DREXEL PUBLIC HEALTH
LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE 

Drexel University’s Public Health Summer Leadership Institute is a one-week academic program designed for high school students who are seeking experiences that will help prepare them for college life. During this program, students will engage in hands-on learning experiences, where they will develop real-world solutions to public health challenges and gain insights into the roles of local health departments.  

PROGRAM DETAILS

  • Location: Drexel University and various sites across Philadelphia

  • Program Length: 5 days

  • Dates: Monday, July 22 – Friday, July 26, 2024, 9:00 – 4:30 pm

  • Participant Mix: Mix of students from all over Philadelphia. There will be other Summer Searchers with you. 

PROGRAM ACTIVITIES

  • Attend daily lectures on various public health topics from guest speakers in the field. The theme of this year’s workshop is housing. 

  • Embark on educational field trips within Philadelphia  

  • Participate in group discussions and hands-on workshops  

  • Collaborate with peers on a case study and build confidence in public speaking and delivering presentations

  • Have an interest in a pre-college type of experience without the pressures of academics  

  • Comfortable meeting & interacting with new people and navigating new spaces independently  

PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS TO KEEP IN MIND

  • Transportation: Students will need to provide their own transportation to and from Drexel every day for one week 

  • Short essay required for application  

  • Students will need to stay focused for college-level lectures and a full day of scheduled activities
