GLOBAL GLIMPSE

Explore the Dominican Republic, Costa Rica, or Panama with Global Glimpse. Students will participate in activities such as Leader of the Day, their Community Action Project, English Tutoring, community engagement and mentoring from the Global Glimpse staff. Ecuador, the Dominican Republic, Costa Rica, or Panama will provide a real-world classroom for students to gain leadership skills, think critically, and make friendships that will last a lifetime.

PROGRAM DETAILS

  • Locations: Dominican Republic, Costa Rica, or Panama 

    • Program Themes:

      • Turrialba, Costa Rica: Environmental Conservation 

      • Constanza, Dominican Republic: Immigration

      • Jarabacoa, Dominican Republic: Immigration

      • Chitre, Panama: Environmental Conservation or Diplomacy 

  • Program Length: 14 days

  • Dates: Global Glimpse offers many trips during the summer that you can choose from. You can choose your preference when completing your application. Check out Global Glimpse’s website for a full list of trip dates.

  • Participant Mix: Each trip will have 15-22 participants from different high schools. You may not have any Summer Searchers on your trip.

  • Transportation: Flight and ground transportation (primarily bus) during the program - all paid for by Summer Search! 

  • Accommodations: Dorm-style accommodations 

  • Phone Access: No access during the program, but will have access on flying days. Students will have access to the trip leader's phone to make calls home and share updates with their family on Global Glimpse's blog. 

PROGRAM ACTIVITIES

  • Learn about the local culture and history of communities in Ecuador, the Dominican Republic, Costa Rica, or Panama 

  • Engage in ethical service work that supports a community need through a Community Action Project 

  • Participate in experiential learning through field trips to farms, factories, businesses, NGOs, schools, national parks, museums, volcanos, or waterfalls  

  • Gain practical skills and knowledge in becoming a responsible global citizen  

  • Cultivate courage, commitment, and compassion in yourself and others around you

  • Receive 20 community service hours 

  • Optional opportunity to join the Alumni Ambassador Program during your senior year of high school consisting of 4 summits focused on college and career readiness 

THIS EXPERIENCE IS A GOOD FIT FOR STUDENTS WHO...

  • Are comfortable traveling outside of the United States on a plane  

  • Are interested in exploring and learning about different cultures and communities   

  • Family is supportive of international travel 

  • Are open to stepping outside of their comfort zone 

PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS TO KEEP IN MIND

  • High level of responsibility and follow-through: students will need to attend all pre-trip workshops and information sessions, secure a passport (if necessary), and meet deadlines.  

  • Summer Search engagement: Students who are engaged with Summer Search and attended a sophomore summer experience with Summer Search last year will be prioritized  

  • Four Global Glimpse adults will be on each trip. There will be 2 Global Glimpse staff members who live in the country you’re visiting, plus 2 Global Glimpse leaders who are local US educators.
