PHILADELPHIA OUTWARD BOUND SCHOOL

This 10-day transformative leadership course is an opportunity for students to challenge themselves while they backpack and canoe through the Appalachian Mountains and Delaware River Water Gap.  

PROGRAM DETAILS

  • Location: Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area

  • Program Length: 10 days

  • Dates: Dates TBA – check back soon!

  • Participant Mix: Summer Search-only group 

  • Phone Policy: You will NOT have access to your phone throughout the program 

  • Accommodations: Sleeping in tents or under tarps with no access to traditional toilets/bathroom

PROGRAM ACTIVITIES

  • Leadership & Team Skills: Practice leadership, initiative, sound judgement, and self-reliance. Set goals and make decisions as a group while relying on compassion and tolerance to transform the group into a team. 

  • Skills Education: Develop technical skills, like backcountry navigation using a map, teamwork skills, backcountry cooking, and surviving and thriving in the elements.

THIS EXPERIENCE IS A GOOD FIT FOR STUDENTS WHO...

  • Are able to participate in physical activity for many hours in a day  

  • Are comfortable in water wearing a lifejacket  

  • No previous outdoor experience necessary  

PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS TO KEEP IN MIND

  • A welcome packet with course details and a packing list will be provided at least a month prior to start date 

  • A mandatory skills prep day will be held prior to the course – more information about this to come!
